Dr. Michael F. Alt
Dr. Alt is a native of Northern Virginia. He graduated from the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Alt attended Virginia Tech, and was admitted to the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine after only 3 years of undergraduate study. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2001. Dr. Alt worked at the Burke Veterinary Clinic through college and veterinary school, joining full time as a veterinarian in June of 2001.
His studies emphasized emergency and critical care medicine as well as alternative medical therapies. Dr. Alt is a member of the Northern Virginia, Virginia State, and American Veterinary Medical Associations.
Dr. Alt is a musician and a Virginia Tech “Hokie” football fan. He lives in Springfield with his rescued Basset Hound and 2 cats.
Dr. Melanie Wilson
Dr. Wilson moved to Vienna in 1975. She graduated from James Madison High School in 1978. She did her undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech and graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. She has worked at several Virginia and Maryland practices as an associate or relief veterinarian, including a prior stint from 1990 to 1994 at the Burke Veterinary Clinic. She has two wonderful cats who are welcome visitors at the clinic.
Dr. Sara Monahan
Dr. Monahan has been practicing veterinary medicine in the Northern Virginia area since 2001. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Virginia and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Monahan joined the practice in April of 2016 and has been very happy to be a part of the Burke Veterinary team.
She lives in Fairfax with her very vocal Siamese cat, Ivan. She has a fondness for Great Danes. Her own Great Danes, Stella and LuLu, were much loved members of her family.
In her free time, Dr. Monahan enjoys hiking, horseback riding, Zumba, travel and watching movies, especially comedies starring Will Ferrell.
Department of Agriculture Accreditation
The doctors are accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture. This special designation of “accredited veterinarian” allows the doctor to provide exams that include health certificates for animals traveling within the United States and abroad. Our clientele travels frequently, and it is nice to give you the confidence that our veterinary staff can meet your needs for proper documentation before your trip.
